AUTOCROSS PHOTOS |
What an interesting
season this is shaping up to be. We
are three races into it and we have three
different winners. This week Jim
McLaughlan took
top honours! Congratulations.
Three must be the lucky number, as we were
fortunate to have Cal Maier take some photos
with us this week. (Click
here for his photos.)
Bill and Will were
also on hand and we will post their photos
shortly.
Bill's photo's can be found here.
Sorry about the procrastination,

GREAT
BMX SEASON OPENER |

Don't try this at home! It's not a good
thing to do this in
front of a photographer that can capture 3
frames per
second!
|
Wednesday night's racing action was worth
the wait! The new "Billy Allen" track
provided a lot of fun and excitement.
It was amazing to see the half trackers do
that tabletop. If you are looking for
a evening of fast action, come on out and
see the racing at the Kelowna BMX track!
Bill beat me to the punch by having his
photos ready almost "instantaneously"!

BMX
STARTS TONIGHT IN KELOWNA |
|
Well, the season is finally upon us!
Racing starts tonight at the Kelowna BMX
track in Rutland. There is a fantastic new
course this year, designed by
ABA's premiere track builder Billy Allan.
(He is also responsible for this year's ABA
"Super National" track in Desoto, TX.)
If you want to get involved, check out the
website at
www.kelownabmx.com
I can't wait to get out and take some
photographs. See you there |

INTERIOR SAVINGS SKI2SEA |
The sunny
Okanagan weather held out for a fantastic
race day. I know Mike said it was
going to rain and in all fairness it did -
but thankfully that was only way later in
the afternoon. The warm temperature
must have made things a little harder on the
competitors. William and Bill were out
taking some photos of the action.
Bill got some photos from the road bike to
run transition and from city park.

a new vehicle ended up with better than
expected results with a 4th

HAPPY
BIRTHDAY! |
Well, it does not take much more than a
Birthday to make you feel a little older.
This month marks OkanaganRacing.com's third
year online. We have had a lot of fun
bringing all of the Okanagan's racing
highlights to all of you.
You don't get to be three years old, without
having a lot of people to thank. I can
imagine what it feels like to be standing on
the Oscar Stage, trying not to forget
anyone. We need to start with our hosting
company, Landmark Internet. You have no idea
of how much server space a year of
photographs takes up or how much bandwidth
we use. An equally important group are the
dedicated photographers that go out to each
event and record all the action for us. How
about the writers that fill our site and
your thoughts with information?
OkanaganRacing.com would also like to thank
our families, for supporting us and not
complaining too loudly as we drag them
around the valley from event to event. There
is no way we could do this without all the
clubs and racers that provide all the
excitement and allow us great access to
shoot our photos! A big shout out to all of
our loyal readers that follow us regularly
and the businesses that support us. It truly
is a huge amount of people to thank. We
would not be here today without you!
But birthday's are also time for reflection.
Even an online publication has thoughts
like: "What have we accomplished?", or
"Where do we see ourselves in 5 or 10
years?"
When it comes to direction, it really helps
to go back to your roots and see why this
site was created. Our goal was to inform our
readers of local racing clubs and the events
they were hosting. We wanted to show how
much fun racing could be and hopefully all
the great photos would encourage new members
and volunteers to get involved. The
immediate benefit to the clubs would be more
people to help put on events, more money in
membership dues and don't forget there is
power in numbers, so it becomes easier to
put on an event when there are a lot of
people supporting it. Local businesses will
see an increase in sales with the new
memberships and they in turn would help the
clubs with more advertising or group
discounts. It really is one big circle.
Sounds simple doesn't it? Well, we thought
why not make the goals even higher. By not
focusing on one particular sport, but rather
bringing all the racers from each discipline
together, we could use the same principle of
more people and more leverage to help create
even better facilities or perhaps even new
places to race.
We believe these are noble goals, but how
are we doing? Well, on that last part we
have a long, long way to go. As for telling
our readers about local events and getting
some great photos, we are making headway.
There is always room to improve. More clubs
telling us about themselves and their events
is a great start. We could also do with a
lot of healthy constructive feedback to make
us better.
The most important thing is that we enjoy
what we are doing and share all the fun and
excitement that makes racing great.
