DON'T
FORGET ABOUT THE VANCOUVER MOTORCYCLE SHOW THIS
WEEKEND |
 |
We know all of
our two wheeled enthusiasts are just waiting
for the roads to clear and the weather to go
above the freezing mark. Well,
if that time is not coming fast enough for
you, you might want to head down to
Vancouver this weekend for the
Vancouver Motorcycle Show.
This year's VMS promises to be very
interesting indeed.
Yamaha Canada plans to unveil it's 2007
sportbike lineup, including the amazing new
R1. For those of you that aren't familiar
with the VMS, it's the first Motorcycle show
of the year that all the big (and not so
big) manufacturers attend and showcase their
latest "must have" products. So be brave and
head down to the coast to check it out.
We plan to be there!
While we are on
the motorcycle tangent, Kelowna's very own
Marcel Irnie has just acquired his first
fully prepared race bike. We hope to
have more pictures and all the details for
you shortly.

GOT ICE? WILL
RACE! |
Ice racing is back on Duck Lake this
weekend! After what seems like 10
years, the ice is thick enough to race on.
Matt Scaife sent in these details:
We have a track thanks to the hard work of
Murray, Glen, and Frank and Josh Winterlik
South Entrance to Duck Lake - PLEASE PAY
ATTENTION - one car at a time on access road
leading to Lake - DO NOT DAMAGE the
irrigation
equipment.
Competitors and official vehicles only thru
this entrance - all others (friends, family
etc.) park on side of highway and walk
across the ice (this
is a non spectator race - everyone must
sign a waiver to be at the track).
We are racing on Sunday - Saturday will see
a track maintenance day - we need cars to do
some test laps (no racing or wheel to wheel
- this will be
one car on the track at a time) and do our
novice program - call Murray or myself and
let us know if you are available on Saturday
and confirm your
entry for Sunday.
You must have a copy of your B.C. drivers
licence for the CACC licence application, if
you do not all ready have a CACC ice race
licence for 2007.
You will need a separate cheque for $25 ($15
for novice) for CACC. Also a copy of your
club membership will be needed. We will have
club memberships at the track ($25 non race,
$50 race) If you do not bring copies with
you - we will have to go get them at my
place after the race (in Winfield). Entry
fee for the first weekend looks like $150.00
/ car. See you there! |

The Sun FM Prescribed Burn Rally Team brings
Championship victory back to the Okanagan
Local
performance rally driver, Mark
Jennings-Bates, driving the Valley
Mitsubishi/Coldwell Banker Horizon Realty
rally car brought some serious trophies home
to the Okanagan following his successful
campaign on 2006.
The goal of
the team was to win the Western Canadian
Novice Championship in 2006, their first
full season in performance rally in Western
Canada. Bettering that goal, Jennings-Bates
ended up finishing as the runner up in the
overall Western Canadian championship on top
of winning the Open Class Championship and
bringing home the Novice Championship.
“On top of the Western Canadian titles, we
also proved that we have the ability to
keep up with national entrants, notably at
Pacific Forest Rally setting top 5 stage
times against some of the best drivers in
Canada and the US.” Said Jennings-Bates.
The team’s
year end results were particularly pleasing
after a tough season where they failed to
finish on two of the five events. “At
Mountain Trials we were caught off guard
with a cockpit fire that terminated our
event and then on our return to Merritt in
the fall at Pacific Forest Rally, we were
stopped with transmission/clutch problems”
added Jennings-Bates.
The
Prescribed Burn Rally Team has set the
objective of winning the overall title in
Western Canada this year and is looking at
the possibility of a National novice title
if their plans come together. “Right now, we
are under budgeted for a 2007 campaign. We
are actively seeking further marketing
relationships to allow us to run a fully
funded campaign this year.” said
Jennings-Bates.

DID I HAVE FUN! |
 |
A shout-out has to go to
Vernon Motorsports for
making me feel like a kid again. The
Minibikes to make you smile. The Karts to
make your realize that speed and ice do go
together and the Big Thumpers to make your
heart tremor and the soles of your shoes
vibrate. The
Vernon Multiplex played
host to
World Championship Ice Racing
on Saturday evening.

SLIPPERY SITUATIONS |
In this month's UP2SPEED column, Markus
deals with some pointed issues. Ice, one of
the many "joys" of winter driving, is a
serious safety issue and maybe those all
seasons just wont "cut" it.
article.
PS. In all of his research, Markus
discovered this year's Pirelli Calendar. I
have not quite figured out how to tell what
day it is, maybe I am missing something.
Here it is.
