KNOX
MOUNTAIN HILLCLIMB - Day 2 |

I really
enjoyed Sunday on the hill. Congratulations to
Ian Wood for being this year's king of the hill.
Ian is sponsored by
IWE Rear
Ends Only.
While race day is always exciting and getting photos
of the cars important, I wanted to focus a little of
my attention towards the one thing that makes an
event like this successful. The volunteers. No
matter what role they took on, they need to have a
round of applause. Great job guys and girls.
Thank you.
If you have a little time on your hands and want to
support racing in our community, please consider
being a volunteer. For next year's hillclimb,
go to
www.knoxmtnhillclimb.ca and let them know.
If you can handle being in the thick of all of the
action, I am sure the folks at META would love to
hear from you. Their site is:

It was a
busy weekend for all the Okanagan BMX racers.
On Saturday, there were two Provincial races.
One in Kamloops and the other in Vernon. On
Sunday Kelowna hosted the provincials in the morning
and Penticton had them in the evening. Scary
thing was that quite a few riders raced them all!

MOUNTAIN HILLCLIMB - Day 1 |
|

What a
beautiful day for the start of the 51st Knox
Mountain Hillclimb. The city of Kelowna has
few auto racing events left on it's yearly calendar,
so this event is very special not only for the
racers, but for motor racing fans as well.
Markus and I took a stroll around on the first day,
it was good to see old faces and make a few new
friends.
Click here for some of the sights we
saw.
To find out more about this event, check out the
official website:

We met local motorcycle racer Marcel Irnie, he
promised to send us a few photos as well. |

WANNA DO
SOMETHING EXCITING? |
|
|
|
|
Please
sign up to volunteer for the local pro rally coming
up in June! Anyone already interested in rally or
curious about racing on twisty gravel roads should
think about coming out - you can help at the service
park, at tech, with the controls or out on the
stages. You don't need to be available on both
days. Anyone needing transportation to/from Merritt
can email me and I'll do my best to set up
carpooling. The accommodations are subsidized and
you get into the awards party. The Easy Rider
Board/Skate Shop usually sponsors the volunteers
with a draw for lots of cool gear. This is the
smaller of the two rallies in Merritt and it will be
a good chance to see what it's about and train for a
position in the larger televised national rally in
October.

The
racing at the Kelowna BMX track was fast last night.
The track was in great shape, thanks to those
volunteers and having the fence around it protects
it as well.

Updated.
The
weather was not looking good for
BMX racing
on Wednesday. Bill stuck around until the
skies opened up and got
these
great shots. Then fearing a huge financial
loss (or a bad hair day) he returned to the safety
of the indoors. Who was to know, 5 minutes
later everything would dry up and a fine evening of
fast and slippery racing would take place. |

Ahh,
sometimes it pays to be late. Not often mind
you, but this time it did. William arrived
just after the first downpour.

DUCATI
TEST RIDE FOR MORNING STAR |
May 6th,
2008 |
|
|
Good
things came in three's this past Tuesday. Not
only did riders get to try out some amazing
motorcycles, but they got to have some good food and
support a very worthwhile cause. It was a
packed house at
Southwest Motorrad. The
Ducati crew was giving out test rides and the
riders were helping support
Morning Star Bible Camp. In total over 700
dollars was raised.

Sunday
was very hot and it seemed to drag on and on and on.
I could blame it on lack of food, but I know it was
because I was not racing. I was not the one
trying to find the limits of the vehicle. I
was not the one slipping and sliding around the
cones. Basically, I was not the one having the
most fun. Don't get me wrong, I love taking
the photos. The weather was dry and warm.
A little cloud cover would have helped, but
otherwise it was a perfect Okanagan summer day.
I should have been happy ... Ok, enough
whining -
here
are the photos. For full race results, be sure to
check out the
forum. I believe the winner of
"most cones for the photographer" award went to Mr.
Zawisza. OkanaganRacing.com sponsors this
prize only when exceptional skill and driving
ability was used. |

It
appears there was a slight glitch in the transition
to May this month. We posted the new month,
but the main page stayed at April. My theory
is that the website knew that we still had not
posted the photos from last months autocross in
Vernon. Well
here
they finally are. |

I
know I was away for the first race of the season.
Thankfully Bill was there to get some really great
shots. (See below).
I must say though - the whole
Kelowna BMX facility
is looking awesome. It has under gone a major
facelift and I believe there is a debt of thanks owed to many local people and businesses. We
will run an article on that later this month.
In the meantime, click here
