The Interior
Loppet Series
Telemark Cross
Country Ski area saw the first round of the ILS last
weekend, with upcoming events happening in Salmon Arm,
Kamloops and Penticton. There were nearly 75 skiers aged
from the very young, about 4 years of age, to a generous
81 year old- kudos to everybody who participated!
Other than the
children and youth events, two main races were staged, a
two-person 30 km relay, with each member taking half the
route and changing over in the stadium area, and a 30 km
individual event, with each skier doing the first 15 km
in “classic” style and the rest on skate skis. The
temperatures were much cooler than I was accustomed to,
but these skiers braved the elements to compete, and by
the looks of the smiles on their faces, they were
enjoying themselves immensely. Many of those skiing
spoke of past experiences in Nor-Am, whereas others
looked like they were simply doing it for themselves.
Regardless, it was a great effort by all, and a
spectacle that was thrilling to watch. For a complete
schedule of events, check out
