Thursday night the Okanagan British Car Club had three new drivers show up for the Thursday Night Autocross Series held at McCurdy Corner. One of the drivers who’s not new to racing is Nakusp driver Don Desandoli. Don has been around racing for several years, racing his one owner Dodge Neon ACR. Don also road races at the Mission and Calgary race tracks as well as the Knox Mountain Hillclimb. Don showed up with his son Roberto in his son’s Dodge Neon ACR. Roberto is new to racing and should be eligible for the TireTrends.com Novice Series organized by Invis mortgage broker Matt Scaife. This year’s top novice will win a $500 Gift Certificate to be used at www.TireTrends.com on any purchase.

Also out for the first time with the Okanagan British Car Club was Jeff Rickets in his right hand drive Japanese import 1989 Nissan Skyline. Jeff drives one of several Nissan Skylines that have been imported directly from Japan. These are Japanese supercars that are available in both all wheel drive and rear wheel drive.

This year’s novices are showing great promise with Zac Zawisza in his 2000 Mazda Miata turning times that placed him 1st overall ahead of some very experienced drivers in cars that are better prepared for their class. Zac is currently sitting in 3rd place overall for the year, out of a total of 83 drivers in the Thursday night series. Another Novice who has been doing well this year is Chris Van Dulken in his 1988 Honda Accord. Chris has been working very hard on both his Accord and his driving, to bring him up to
10th place overall in the Series. Logan Noel is his overly heavy, Subaru Legacy with an automatic transmission has also been doing very well in his first year. Logan has been very fast and is sitting in 20th place overall in this very competitive field of fast Miata’s. This most recent autocross had Logan sitting in 11 place and Chris in 14th overall out of the 29 drivers in attendance.

Myriam Stommel in her Pontiac Wave was our top woman placing 8th, with Sera Scaife in the family’s TireTrends & Invis Mortgages sponsored 1999 Miata placing 13th.

The autocross series runs for 7 more weeks with the final event scheduled for September 7th. It is held every Thursday with racing starting at 6:00 and registration opening at 5:15 pm.
